Front End Development Manager

We are looking for an experienced individual to join our developer team working on some of the most innovative front-end experiences and marketing programs for the world's most valuable brand. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in being part of, and leading, a front-end development team in a fast-paced, creative-focused environment. You should have the ability to learn and take action quickly, communicate effectively, have a keen eye for detail, be excellent at solving creative challenges and never be one to settle for anything less than perfection.

As a primary technical liaison to this client, you will work closely with the Senior Account Director building and strengthening relationships at the client campus. This position is full-time, reports to the Technology Director, and is primarily based onsite at our client’s Sunnyvale office (free shuttle available from various Bay Area locations), with occasional time (one or two days per week) spent at our San Francisco office as project load permits.


  • Day-to-day leadership for a team of Front-End developers who develop web applications and custom email templates
  • Focus on employee development, including one-on-ones, reviews and goal setting of direct reports
  • Work closely with developers to detect issues and refine development process to meet project needs
  • Work with Producers to create and manage project schedules
  • Assess and communicate status, issues, risks, and successes
  • Develop and maintain process documentation
  • Ensure products are delivered to specifications on time
  • Forecast technical resource needs and work closely with the Technology Director to fill those needs
  • Schedule and facilitate appropriate technical meetings with client to define and validate technical requirements
  • Work with the Technology Director to refine and maintain effective hiring practices which brings new talent to the team

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience as a front-end developer
  • 2+ years of experience as a technical lead or manager
  • In-depth knowledge and experience designing and developing client-side interactive features using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, as well as build tools like Git, Gulp, SASS, and SVN
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working closely with developers and business stakeholders
  • Excellent organization, time-management, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to be a leader within the team as well as someone who is able to represent the team within the client organization
  • Ability to successfully fulfill intense (and often competing) demands from multiple stakeholders, both within Traction and within the client organization; ability to perform well under pressure
  • Experience working in a rapidly evolving creative environment, such as an advertising / interactive agency or startup, where multiple releases are the norm
  • Adept at moving technology teams away from tactical operation issues and towards strategic feature development

Nice to have:

  • In-depth experience with React, Angular, Node
  • Experience with languages such as Python, Ruby, Java, or PHP
  • Experience with hand-coded email template development
  • Project management experience
  • IT/DevOps/WebOps experience
